HYOID

HYOID is a Brussels-based group of classically trained vocal soloists specialized in new music and transdisciplinary performance. The group strives to challenge and expand traditional concert formats, while cultivating close partnerships with composers, performers and artists of its generation. They perform a cappella as well as with instruments, tape or electronics, and adapt their line-up to each production. HYOID
(/ˈhaɪɔɪd/) gets its name from the U-shaped hyoid-bone, a bone helping with diction, swallowing and breating; the only free-floating bone in the human body.

artistic direction: Fabienne Séveillac & Andreas Halling

  • ‘It’s impossible to praise HYOID Contemporary Voices highly enough; their performance was simply astonishing, and will surely go down in HCMF history as one of the festival’s most legendary concerts.’
    (5against4, 23/11/2018)
  • ‘A History of the Voice, superbly interpreted by vocal ensemble HYOID...’
    (NRC Handelsblad, 5/11/2018)
  • ‘What makes the piece so good is the way it is executed. Now, after having seen it a second time, even more so. The timing is sublime, the way these four artists play together is phenomenal, the pace is close to abnormal.’
