The path of Karen Willems is a journey through a colorful world of possibilities. A free haven for influences from all over the world.
The Belgian drummer / percussionist is active in various fields. Started as a drummer in rock and pop bands such as Zita Swoon Group, Jan Swerts, Pascal Deweze, Yuko, Novastar, Mauro Pawlowski and others.
With a number of musicians she built up a tradition within improvised music and sound art: Eric Thielemans, Jean DL, Benjamin Glorieux, Aidan Baker, Stijn Dickel, Elms Willdick, Kreng, Kaboom Karavan, Jürgen Augusteyns, Frederik Croene..
Willems is also active in theater, dance and contemporary music productions and worked with Kopergietery, Ultima Vez, ChampdAction, Platform K, Bl!ndman [drums]..
Willems started her own project in 2012 under the moniker ‘INWOLVES’. Released 3 albums. Air+, Involves and Color In The Zoo.
From 2020 Willems is searching for personal modifications within her play of instruments and objects, with the focus on a solo path and collaborations.
Cohort will support Willems inhere ongoing research. She can be seen and heard in the coming weeks at Rewire festival, in a duo with legendary guitarist Fred Frith at Handelsbeurs in Ghent and solo at Concertgebouw Brugge.
